East Texas Baptist University at UW-LaCrosse

The UW-LaCrosse Eagles open their 2010 season when they host the East Texas Baptist University Tigers. The Eagles will be looking to repeat last year's opener, which saw them travel to Marshall Texas and defeat the Tigers 28-13.

What the Eagles must do to win

The Eagles' QB Nick Anker will be more comfortable in his second year running the spread offense. Last year, the Eagles trailed 6-0 at halftime before scoring 28 2nd half points in their season opening win. This year, the Eagles will be looking to start faster and play from the lead. That could cause real problems for the Tigers, whose QB's completed only 46.3% of their passes last season. UW-L will be able to move the ball against the Tigers, who gave up 29 points per game last year. However, to assure victory, the Eagles must convert their red zone opportunities. Last year the Eagles ranked last in the WIAC in that category.

Analysis

UW-L has the stronger team and the stronger program as the two teams head into this season. Although the Eagles have slipped in WIAC standing in the past several years, they are still a very difficult opponent for conference and non-conference opponents alike. UW-L is a very athletic team and will likely take advantage of mismatches on both sides of the ball.

Score Projection

UW-LaCrosse 27
East Texas Baptist University 13
