UW-Oshkosh at Central College

The UW-Oshkosh Titans travel to Pella, Iowa to open their 2010 season against the 7th ranked Dutch of Central College on Saturday. The Titans, coming off a 4-6 season (2-5 WIAC) will be looking to knock off a veteran Dutch team with high aspirations this year. The Dutch return 18 starters after finishing last season with a 10-1 record.

How the Titans can win

QB Nate Wara must develop a rhythm with the short passing game and keep moving the chains to keep the ball out of the hands of a powerful Dutch offense that averaged 37.5 points per game last year. Defensively, the Titans must find a way to slow down multi-threat QB Nate Snead (1,264 yds passing, 872 yards rushing).

Analysis

UW-O has earned much respect for scheduling Central and Mount Union this year in an effort to upgrade their program. Saturday, they must face the initial realities of that choice. Central has qualified for the playoffs in 4 of the last 5 seasons compiling a record of 47-9. Snead will likely thrive against a Titan team that ranked last in the WIAC in QB sacks in 2009. The Titans are battle tested and should be able to score some points, but they don't figure to put enough on the board to pull the upset.

Score Projection

Central College 35
UW-Oshkosh 17
